Of course you can also install Minecraft skins for the offline client if you don’t play Minecraft online.

0. Download A Zipping Tool

1. Download Minecraft skins and save the PNG image as char.png

2. Important: Follow this tutorial to make sure you can see hidden folders in Windows 7 , else if you can’t see them you won’t be able to follow the next steps.

3. Open the Windows Explorer (Windows key + E) and go to C:\Users\[usernamehere]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin

Replace [usernamehere] with your name, example C:\Users\sOliver\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin

4. Right-click on the file minecraft.jar. Open the file with the zipping tool (step 0).

5. Now minimize the current window of the zipping program so that you can still see it.

6. Open the Windows Explorer again and find the skin that you download, drag the PNG skin into the opened Jar file.

so i tried installing it, but there was no char.png in the jar file. there was no file to overwrite.

also it doesnt work. i did EXACTLY what the instructions told me, when i go back ingame i still have the default skin.
does it not work for v1.5 users?

A note regarding the offline client: Do NOT put the char.png straight into the minecraft.jar! Instead open the “mob” folder in the minecraft.jar and overwrite the char.png in there with your own char.png.
