How to disable the Windows 7 sidebar?
On another site the question came up how to disable the Windows 7 sidebar. This is a brief tutorial, that will explain you how to do that in just a few simple steps.
To disable the sidebar you will have to open up the msconfig.exe.
1. Enter msconfig.exe into the search bar (on your start menu):
2. Go to “Startup” and find the entry:
Microsoft Windows Operating system with the “command line”:
C:\Program files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe /autoRun
3. Uncheck the entry and click on “Apply”.
Voilà, next time you will start Windows 7, the sidebar won’t show up.
Windows 7 Sidebar shortcut
Now it might happen that you want to launch the sidebar manually. To do that, create a shortcut to the Windows 7 sidebar on your desktop:
Go to the folder C:\Program files\Windows Sidebar\, right-click on sidebar.exe, click on “Send to -> Desktop” to create a shortcut to your desktop.
