How to backup Windows 8

Backup Data, Metro Apps On Windows 8
Windows 8 offers a convenient way to backup your data. The backup system offers scheduled backups, restore and recovery options. Following are the steps to backup your Windows 8 data and settings.
1. Open the Start Screen and hit CTRL + F on your keyboard – on the right there is the Charms bar, click on Search

2. From the Apps list that appears, click on Control Panel.
3. In the Control Panel , click on More Settings. This will take you to Control Panel window.
4. Click on Restore Windows 7 Backups.
5. In the Restore Windows 7 Backups, click on Set up backup.
6. It will ask for the Partition or Drive to save the backup on. Select one and click Next.
7. Now it will ask for custom or recommended backup option. Select Let Windows choose (recommended) and click Next.
8. Finally it will display the review of the backup settings. Click Save settings and run backup. The backup process starts and a progress bar displays your backup progress.
The backup feature recommends that backups should be made on a seperate physical drive to avoid data loss in case of disk failure.

I tried your instructions for Windows 8. When I bring up the Control panel, there is no “more settings”. You also mention Windows 7 several times. Is this for Windows 7 or 8?

I just installed Windows 8. I click in the lower left of the Start screen but there is no Start menu. You must have a special version of Windows 8 since, according to Microsoft, there is no more Start menu.
I can get to Search and Apps and Control Panel, but there are no more settings and no Restore Windows 7 backups.
Your screens look different than the standard Windows 8. You are perhaps giving instructions that are not valid for the release version of Windows 8. Yours looks like the Developers Preview version.

Under the release version of Win 8, it is called Windows 7 File Recovery.

Instead of using the Start menu, simply hit CTRL + F to bring up the Charms bar
