How to access BIOS in Windows 7
How you access your BIOS does not depend on your operating system (e.g. Windows 7), but on your motherboard manufacturer (e.g. ASUS). Let’s see how we can access the BIOS quickly.
Warning: You can always reset your BIOS settings to the default settings. However, if you accidentally modify certain BIOS settings related to the CPU multiplier or CPU voltage you can possibly damage your hardware irreversibly. So, stay away from those settings if you’re new to editing BIOS settings.
Every motherboard manufacturer is using a different key / key combination that allows you to access the BIOS. However, the most frequently used key to access the BIOS is the “DEL” key. You simply have to press the DEL key on boot up BEFORE the operating system selection screen. Tip: Simply turn on your PC and immediately start pressing DEL repeatedly until a blue screen appears. When you see the blue screen, you’re in the BIOS (short for basic input/output system).
Most frequently used keys for accessing the BIOS:
- DEL (ASUS)
- F1, F2, F10, F12
- CTRL + ALT + ESC
- ESC
Often the key / key combination to access the bios will be display shortly. If you simply can’t figure it out, read the manual of your motherboard. Should you not find your manual, you can always download it online from the manufacturer website.
If you know the key for accessing your BIOS, please post it along with the name of the motherboard manufacturer below and we can make a list of all BIOS keys. Thanks!
