Grab Your Diaries: Windows 8 Could Officially Launch October 25
Launching Windows 8 on a Thursday and Surface devices at midnight could be Microsoft’s plan
Sources speaking to technology website The Verge claim October 25 is the date when Microsoft will be launching the radical operating system.
We know Windows 8 is available to buy from October 26, but what about a Microsoft event for its operating system? Well, invites are being sent out to the press to attend a Windows 8 the day before general sale.
The invite asks media to celebrate the launch of Windows 8 on Thursday, October 25, 2012 in New York City. We heard from sources speaking to technology website ZDNet that the operating system would launch October 25.
The launch marks an important closing quarter for Microsoft. Windows 8 represents a fundamental shift in how the company thinks. Design hasn’t been the primary focus for Microsoft; however, in the wake of companies like Apple, it is becoming a necessity. We’re seeing with Google’s overhaul in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich that thinking. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean saw refinements on the platform.
Nervous Moments For Microsoft
Microsoft is introducing the tile-based Modern UI on Windows 8. It targets touch screen-enable devices with its large icons for apps, not programs. Therefore it’s interesting Microsoft is including the desktop side of Windows. It resembles the design in Windows 7 and Windows Vista. It isn’t unreasonable to think Microsoft should have ditched the Old Windows and gone with the new user interface. Though the negative reactions would have exploded.
ZDNet also said Microsoft will hold a midnight event for the launch of Surface, its Windows 8 tablets. That isn’t confirmed by the software giant, though it would be good news for one of the most anticipate Windows 8 devices. We’re certainly excited about it.
We’ll have to see what Microsoft during the event. We’re probably going to get price on both models of Surface, and the launch date for the Windows Pro version. We may also get a range of Windows 8 devices shown like the Windows Phone launch. I wouldn’t rule out mentions towards the mobile operating system either considering the integration of the platforms.
Windows 8 launches October 26.
