Goodbye XP, Hello Windows 8: Release Date News

Windows 8 Release Date Now that Microsoft stopped selling copies of Windows XP, we can start looking forward to Windows 8. We have some great news for you, we might have a release date (approx. year) for Windows 8!

The official Windows blog of the Netherlands (www.windows.nl) posted an entry about the future of Windows. A rough translation of the entry said something like this:

Furthermore, Microsoft is of course working on the next version of Windows. But it will take about two years before “Windows 8″ will hit the market.

By now, windows.nl removed the entry. However, 2012 could be a reasonable expectation. Microsoft wants a shorter release cycle, but developing a new operating system (possibly from scratch this time) takes time. If they started developing Windows 8 in early 2010, late 2009 this would mean they only have 2 years to release a new fully-fledged OS.

What do you think, when will Windows 8 hit the market? When we asked you the last time, 19% of 2000 voters also believed 2012 to be a reasonable release date for Windows 8.

Microsoft is definitely on a run right now, Q1 was another record breaking quarter for Microsoft as they revealed now.  MSFT stock price is climbing. Thanks to a lot of coverage on TV, Kinect is also selling very, very well right now. Go Microsoft! We are looking forward to Windows 8!

I sure hope Microsoft comes out with 8 in 2010. My windows 7 has just about seen it’s days. I am really seeing a huge breakdown with 7 now that I have used it for several years.
