Free Trial of Windows 7 Enterprise – Limited Supplies

Yesterday, Microsoft released a 90-day free trial of Windows 7 Enterprise.

The trial is fully operational, so there are no features missing. So, where’s the catch?  The supplies are intended for IT professionals, but basically anyone is eligible to receive a copy. If they don’t run out of keys the download should be available until March 31, 2010. There are limited supplies, but considering that they say it’s available until 2010 makes me believe that they are giving away *a lot* of them and it’s just an attention grabber. Another decent move of Microsoft to enter the freebie market again. This is the first time in their company history that they are giving away a real trial of a fully functional Windows.

Despite a statement that you will need to do a clean install and add a valid key after the trial has ended, there are some IT guys of Microsoft who say something different. According to Kevin Remde, you can change your product key at the end of the trial. Obviously, you will still need a valid serial to activate Windows 7.

Microsoft also announced a Windows 7 10% promo discount for Windows 7 Professional. It will drop from $199.99 to $170.

In the meantime the download period for the free RC clients ended. You are no longer able to download the RC client. If you didn’t get a copy in time, the Enterprise trial might be another chance. What are you waiting for?
