Intel probably was a little stunned when Microsoft introduced the Surface tablet. According to recent rumors, the new Xbox 8 might not even run on an Intel CPU.
Intel CPU Too Expensive? Xbox 8 Possibly Cheaper Than PS4
It’s very possible that Microsoft’s new console will not include an Intel CPU. Intel and Microsoft have been partners for a very long time, but Microsoft may not want to depend too much on them and may be looking for alternatives. Obviously, production costs are also a very important factor. AMD is obviously one of the best and CHEAP alternatives. AMD CPU’s are cheaper compared to Intel CPU’s and will allow Microsoft to produce a Xbox 8 with top-notch hardware that will give developers the chance to create much more complex game worlds.
Intel CPU’s on the other hand would increase the price for consumers. Since Microsoft does not know what Sony will sell the PS4 for, the price could be one of the major selling points.
