Windows Phone Enterprises Features Announced For Businesses

On Wednesday, on the Windows Phone Blog by Microsoft, the Windows blog was updated with new information that discussed upcoming enterprise features of the Windows Phone. The new features will give enterprise and business customers more reasons to launch Windows Phones in their companies.

The enterprise enhancements noted by Microsoft, will give business customers the advanced features that they need in the enterprise. The business centric features along with an upgraded support lifecycle gives businesses and larger companies reasons to look at the Microsoft phones a look.

Windows Phone Enterprise Feature Pack Announced on Wednesday

Support Lifecycle Increased

Windows Phones for the enterprise now have a 36 month support lifecycle versus an 18 month as prior. This longer period of support will include security updates, enterprise packs, and other improvements to give enterprise and business customers the ability to largely scale the Windows Phones across their businesses.

Enterprise Feature Pack For Windows Phone

The first half of 2014, will include an Enterprise Feature pack for businesses. Theses improvements include S/MIME to sign and encrypt email, access to corporate resources via a VPN, enterprise Wi-Fi support with EAP-TLS, enhanced MDM policies to lock down functionality and applications for users, and certificate management abilities to enroll, update, and revoke certificates for user authentication.

Windows Phone Now For The Enterprise

What Windows Phone has been missing are business and enterprise customers, and the inclusion of a VPN and ability to encrypt email gives them the resources they need and desire to use Windows Phones throughout their companies. It is late coming, towards the first half of 2014, but it does show that Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about their business and enterprise customers when it comes to Windows Phones.

This set of updates for enterprise and business customers is a huge plus for Windows Phones and Microsoft. It gives businesses the tools they need, the security features they need to implement, the choices they need to install for users, and gives users the security they need to access sensitive corporate data with their phones. This should help out the numbers of Windows Phones sold by Microsoft by businesses and enterprise customers, and should help out the bottom line of profitability for the Redmond company.
