Rafael found a registrykey after the last Windows update that is required to downlod the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 beta. So, if you want to download the beta in the next few days, you should first update Windows 7.
Reasons for a Service Pack? Many companies still tend to wait for a “patched” Windows before they migrate to a new Windows. It makes them feel more secure. We will soon know what exactly they are going to update and fix when they release the Service Pack for public beta testing.

Question: what is “beta”
Beta is a testing phase before it will be released. When many people test a product you often get a lot of feedback, bug reports, etc. and they will then improve the service pack depending on the feedback.
