Service Pack 1 Changes & Public Beta Release Date Revealed

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Beta It’s official, Microsoft has finally started the closed beta test for the 1st Windows 7 Service Pack. Although, Windows 7 SP1 won’t bring any significant changes this is another chance to try Windows 7 for free.

Update size + languages
The Windows 7 SP1 update is 1,22GB large and is currently available for tech beta testers in the following languages:
English, German, French, Japanese, Spanish.

Release dates:
As expected, Microsoft started the beta in June 2010. Therefore we can expect that the final release date for Windows 7 SP1 will be indeed September – October 2010. If you still haven’t jumped on the bandwagon, now might be a good time to try Windows 7!

Windows Server 2008:
The server edition of Windows, Windows 2008, will get a special update with the next update. RemoteFX will allow remote desktop connections with all 3D effects and enhanced visual appearance.

Other features like Bluetooth 3.0 support still haven’t been confirmed officially. Of course there will be minor updates and all security updates will be included, which is very important for business users of Windows 7. Personally, I expect that Microsoft will even sell more copies of Windows 7 during the next quarter.

Michael Atalla mentioned a few changes on the Microsoft Exchange Team blog that you might consider to be important:

  • Improved archiving
  • Improved discovery feature
  • Outlook Wep App OWA
  • Improved Mobile User + Management
  • UI for management tasks
