As more pictures have surfaced on the Halo 4 Limited Edition Xbox 360 console, it looks better and better. That’s down to the awesome translucency, but also due to the influences from the Halo 4 campaign.

343 Industries said it wanted to build a Forerunner-themed Xbox 360, compared to previous Limited Edition consoles. In the past, including Halo themed consoles such as Halo: Reach’s, there’s been a single color scheme with a game-influenced graphic (like Gears of War). 343 Industries said it has experimented with external objects on the console, but ultimately thought the stability of the console would be negatively affected.

Industries has talked about bevels, bass-relief, extrusions, and carvings. While sounding really cool, heat ventilation and Wi-Fi strength were just two factors affected by awesome designs.

As mentioned the console is translucent, meaning you can see inside the console, and it’s inspired by an in-game object from Halo 4. Industries said it’s not an exact recreation of the object, and it has been seen by players.

Of course, as a Limited Edition console, on-off and eject sounds are included. Watching the 343 Industries panel during San Diego Comic-Con, the sounds seemed to be based off the Promethean enemies. Industries added in the blog post the sounds aren’t exact, and have a kind of crystalline metallic quality.

Sharing insight into the development process, the console was revealed to have gone through dozens of iterations. The challenge, according to 343 Industries, is finding sounds that worked with the speakers low volume and limited frequency range.

If you didn’t know anything about the Halo 4 Limited Edition console, then here are the details: it’s $399.99, complete with two controllers matching the console’s design and a 320GB hard drive; a copy of the Standard Edition of Halo 4; a bunch of downloadable content, including in-game armor and matching avatar armor (Xbox Live), and a theme for those on PlayStation Network; and an Xbox 360 headset.
