The fabled and much talked about Microsoft Surface Power Cover has been more of a myth and fantasy tale for Surface 2 owners as of late. But on Monday, the shipping date of these Surface Power Covers became official as March 19th, 2014 is the date they will finally ship from Microsoft.
What particularly makes the Microsoft Surface Power Cover exciting for Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablet users, is the ability to add extra power. Nothing sucks like being lost without power on the go, and now the addition of one of these covers will make life a little better.
Power Cover Specs
The Microsoft Store launched the pre-order on its site, and the specs of these Power Covers are pretty nice. They weigh only .55 pounds each and are 9.75 mm thick, which won’t add much to the overall thickness of the tablets. This can easily be added to the tablet and carried around to wherever you need.
What really makes the Surface Power Covers exciting is the 70 percent extension of battery life for Surface Pro, Surface 2, and Surface Pro 2 users. Surface Pro 2 users will probably see the best benefit as those units tend to fade quicker, and should give users a lot more life than they expect from it now.
Other Surface Power Cover Hints
The Surface Power Cover will have a number of keys for users to use on their Surface tablets. They will have Activation: Moving (mechanical) keys • Layout: QWERTY, full row of function keys (F1 – F12) • Dedicated buttons for Windows shortcuts and media controls for users to enjoy and use.
It will have a magnetic interface that will attach to the tablets and have an accelerometer sensor built within it. It will have a 1-year limited hardware warranty, and be available from Microsoft Stores and their online store. Dedicated tablet users will enjoy the functionality of the Surface Power Covers, and they should be a huge hit. They will make the Surface much easier to use for longer period of times for many.
This is great news for Surface users. These covers have been expected for a long time, and now they are almost here.
