Office Online is a product that is used both in the personal and business world, but businesses are using it more everyday. Microsoft realizes this and sees Yammer in a similar movement. On Friday, Microsoft announced better collaboration tools with Yammer and Office Online.
Yammer for the most part is a enterprise social tool, that is used by a large number of businesses to manage their social space. By incorporating that with Office Online, companies can use both the Yammer and Office Online tools to create better and organize better as well.
Document Preview & Edit Experiences
The first thing that users will notice, is that the document preview and edit experiences for files uploaded into Yammer will now be powered by Office Online. Users can press the edit file link in Yammer, and a new browser window will open to pull up the file.
Users can then make any changes or updates to the file, and save directly into Office Online. Users will notice the changes saved into Yammer as well, and then review version history as well. Co-authoring of documents is coming, and Bing Translator will be added in the future as well.
Microsoft also updated other features of this integration for users. Microsoft extended document collaboration to external participants, making it possible to work with files with customers, partners, and other. Reliability of the document collaboration experience was important to Microsoft.
Microsoft is looking to extend the document collaboration to other Microsoft products as well. This includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other Microsoft products. Office Online and Yammer are both big enterprise tools that generate revenues, and Microsoft realizes this with the updates made to the products.
