New Rare Platformer Heading to Xbox One?

Fans of developer Rare will be perking up their ears as there are rumours they will be creating a new platformer for the Xbox One.

Rare To Release New Platformer?

Rare is the cult studio behind legendary titles such as GoldenEye and Conkers Bad Fur Day for the Nintendo 64 along with Perfect Dark and its sequel that was released on the Xbox 360 Perfect Dark Zero.

The games have dried up a little in both the amount released and critical claim received since Microsoft bought the company in 2002.

The company famously never sticks to one genre in particular with racing, action and first person shooters all among their back catalogue but it is the platformers that they are most famous for. Which is why fans are getting excited at the Prospect of a new platformer heading to the Xbox One.

Head Of Microsoft Says New Rare Platformer Would Be “Great”

Head of Microsoft studios Phil Spencer is equally as excited it appears and seems to have opened up to the possibility of an announcement from the secretive company.

Discussing the prospect of Rare returning to platformers on Twitter with his followers he commentated that “A new Rare plat would also be great” after approving of Press Play’s upcoming side-scroller Max : The Curse of Brotherhood.

So how likely is the possibility of a new platformer or even a sequel to a previous series heading to the new generation of consoles?

Rare Focusing on Kinect Sports Rivals for Now

Comments from the studio back in August alluded to the company revisiting the Banjo,Conker and Viva Pinata series of games.

“We’ve got ideas for most older Rare IP, you won’t be surprised to hear. There’s quite a lot of desire to do that, and Viva Pinata, Conker… Banjo’s very popular internally, a lot of people want to do stuff with Banjo,” a source stated.

However, for the time being it appears the studio is focusing on the next iterations to the Kinect Sport series – Kinect Sports Rivals.

Kinect Sports Rivals is expected to launch for the Xbox One sometime in 2014 – but fans will be eager to here of any other potential releases from the company in the meantime.
