On Thursday, the NPD Group who monitors the sales of video game consoles and electronics in the US revealed that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 remained the top selling console in October 2013. This is huge news for Microsoft which can use this to leverage itself against Sony ahead.
The sales numbers released for October 2013 show that the Xbox 360 still tops the Playstation 3 and other consoles for sales in the US. As the next generation consoles are released in the next couple weeks, the Xbox 360 will try to keep its title among strong competition.
Xbox 360 King of Consoles
The numbers from the NPD Group show that the Xbox 360 sold 166,000 units throughout the US in October 2013. These numbers are amazing knowing that the Xbox One and Playstation 4 are coming out in mere weeks. The number of console units were somewhat reduced and put on sale at retail channels and offers a great price for gamers to enjoy the Xbox ecosystem.
The total retail spend for the Xbox 360 platform in October 2013 that included hardware, software, and accessories was $283 million, that most from any console in the US. The top 10 games were “Batman: Arkham Origins,” “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” “Battlefield 4,” “NBA 2K14,” and “Grand Theft Auto V.” These games are all the new ones and makes the Xbox 360 a major player for sure.
How The Xbox 360 Will Fair
With these sales numbers released on Thursday, Microsoft is aiming to have top sales numbers for November as well with the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. The Xbox One while priced at $499, is a top selling preorder on various sites, and Microsoft has been selling out preorders at their Microsoft stores too. It is going to be a great quarter for them ahead.
This matters because as people line up for the Xbox One, sales of the Xbox 360 will decline, and Microsoft still has a major investment in the Xbox 360 and for its players. They will have to manage both systems, keep both sets of gamers happy, and keep its investors happy at the same time. Whether or not it will be the top one in November 2013 will be anyones guess.
I love the Xbox 360 and use it daily. I have the Xbox One preordered and am looking forward to what it can do for my entertainment and gaming needs.
