Microsoft Begins Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’ Roll Out

Microsoft has begun the phased deployment of the Windows Phone 7 OS  updated called “Mango”.

Mango will be pushed out to users over the next few weeks, starting today. This pushes the current version of the OS up to 7.5 and has been the single most anticipated update for the platform.

Windows Phone7 Devices Get Updated With New Features With The 7.5 Mango Update

With Mango, the Windows Phone 7 platform has become completely at par with the other two competing platforms in the market — iOS and Android. For a platform that was released last year, this is a commendable job.

The new update brings features like better application management and multitasking, deeper integration of social networking features like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Messaging has also gone through an overall facelift, with a new grouping feature for sending instant messages to small groups at a time and threaded conversations for Facebook and Windows Live messaging.

The platform also saw another boost this week with the release of the first 4G Windows Phone from HTC. Called the Radar, it will be available from T-Mobile and has only been released in the US for the time being. It will be shipping with Windows Phone 7.5 preinstalled. Pricing is yet to be announced but we are guessing it would be in the $200 price range with a two-year contract with T-Mobile.

Windows phones are gradually rising in popularity and are expected to receive more exposure in the global market once Nokia executes its pan-production platform shift to Windows Phone. Nokia has already started pushing Windows Phones, like the N9, to the market. The company also made a related statement earlier this week, saying that they are ramping up productions in anticipations of increased demands post the Mango update.
