You know, this latest Mass Effect 3 DLC pack looks pretty cool and may actually get me back into the game. Here’s why
BioWare is continually generating interest around Mass Effect 3 because every downloadable content pack is free, and the latest is called Earth. You can probably guess the subject matter, but as usual BioWare includes new weapons and costumes, so here are the details.
Earth has maps from Rio, Vancouver and London; there’s a new Platinum difficulty expanding upon the existing Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers that increase the volume and difficulty of enemies along with the amount of time missions have to be completed in (the higher the tier, the shorter the time); three new weapons are in: the Piranha assault shotgun, Acolyte pistol and Typhoon assault rifle; and there are six new classes available: the Destroyer Soldier, Paladin Sentinel, Demolisher Engineer, Slayer Vanguard, Shadow Infiltrator and the Fury Adept. The reason each class has an adjective is because each has new abilities and melee attacks, which probably explains why they look different on the BioWare blog.
The rewards are available in Reinforcement Packs, which are bought through credits earned while playing and randomly give items.
Free DLC, New Classes, Real Life Cities: What Not To Like?
The rapid refinement means an average, but effective, multiplayer experience that provides short doses of fun has been a long-term investment. The game itself is based around using four abilities in a squad of four players, killing enemies and completing a couple of objectives. And the campaign is pretty good too, so you should probably play that.
Other DLC packs include the Resurgence Pack and Rebellion Pack, which are also free and available on the same platforms. I’ll probably download this at some point to write some impressions, but the Earth setting seems cool and the new classes are interesting.
Mass Effect 3: Earth releases July 17 for Xbox 360 and PC worldwide. PlayStation 3 players get the pack July 17 in North America and July 18 in Europe. It’s free on every platform.
