Reminiscing over Star Wars Battlefront? Want the third entry in the franchise? Here it is … in Alpha form

We don’t know whether we’ll ever get to fly around, in large teams, in the Star Wars universe again, but we can hope. And hope we will, because Alpha footage has surfaced of the game in a video that shows everything from the title screen to actual combat.

The footage at first shows the title screen, which is pretty basic, with the customary Star Wars theme tune. It’s the usual affair, but an addition I don’t remember being in the previous title is the “Player Records.” Presumably this was the game’s version of a service record, showing the kill/death ratio and other stats.

In the Singleplayer mode, there are options to play the campaign mode or the returning Galactic Conquest. Players can also choose Training to practice, or go through tutorials. There are also “Challenges,” “Free Play” and “Jedi Arena.” I presume the Challenges are some kind of custom scenario, perhaps where you have to kill a certain number of enemies in a set amount of time or capture a specific base when a situation is laid out in a unique way. Free Play is likely a way to play any map, in any mode and on any side (perhaps settings were also customizable). Jedi Arenas could be a Jedi-only multiplayer mode, like in Jedi Academy, or maybe a tutorial to get used to playing as a Jedi.

The planets from the campaign are also shown off: Tatooine, Coruscant, Dantooine, Yavin IV, Endor, Cloud City and the wookie homeworld Kashykk all feature (and there are more in the video).

Instant Action is also shown, which allows players to select various maps. Curiously, the menu shows “Added Maps” and “Level Name.” Were custom maps going to be supported? Players can also choose from three modes: Conquest, Heroes Vs Villains and Hunt. The first two are pretty self explanatory, but the last is interesting and sounds like some sort of VIP or survival mode.

The Clone Wars or Galactic Civil War can be selected, which could change enemy types. Wars could be map specific. There’s a lot to the video, so expect more tomorrow.
