Finding Dungeon The Regular Way

Finding a dungeon within a huge world is tough, but the rewards are great and the fun even better.

Tip: Dungeons close to the surface may not have any loot at all, so deeper dungeons are better.

1. Step Find cobblestones and mossy cobblestones and you are close to a dungeon:

2. Step Listen for moaning zombies while you are underground. You might be VERY close to a dungeon.

3. Step Look for tunnels and possibly cave entrances that you did not dig. There may be a dungeon close by.

Finding Dungeons & Mossy Coblestone via Map Viewer

If you don’t mind “cheating” a little, you can use so called map viewers. Because Minecraft worlds are very big, it could take hours until you find a dungeon, so if you want to speed things up a little you need a decent map viewer.

I tested some of the map viewers for Minecraft and they are all rather difficult to use to locate dungeons, sure as hell not as intuitive as Minecraft. The map viewer that was relatively easy to use is called MineViwer.

1. StepDownload Mineviewer ( from here.
2. Step I created a new color scheme for mossy cobblestones, download it here: Download MossyCobblestone Scheme .LA
3. Step Replace the with your own in the Mineviewer folder.

Alternatively, add the following to your scheme.lua below Schemes.CaveView[Air] = { r … }

Schemes.MossyView = { }
Schemes.MossyView[MossyCobblestone] = { r = 0.0, g = 1.0, b = 0.0, border = 0.7, b_r = 0.0, b_g = 0.8, b_b = 0.0 }

4. Step Click on the empty areas as seen below to uncover the complete Minecraft world. By default it will only show a small part:
Reveal Minecraft Maps
5. Step Hold down the right mouse button and use W,S,A,D to move through the world.
6. Step Press T and double-click on CivilizationView
7. Step Find a spot that you already mined, e.g. something like this:

Minecraft Map Viewer Civilization

6. Step Hit T again and select MossyView

7. Step Voilà, you found Mossy Cobblestone. Since mossy cobblestones are only in dungeons you now know where to look for a dungeon.

Someone please tell me there’s an easier way to find dungeons and mossy cobblestones! ~.~
