Mac users have long complained about Microsoft’s lack of focus on the Office product, and have complained online and offline for changes to be made for it. Microsoft listened and announced the Office for Mac 2016 earlier this year, and on Thursday announced the final version of the product.
Microsoft’s last full version of Office for the Mac came out in 2010, so it’s been a while since the product was fully revamped for users. The Mac platform and Office have changed since then, and via public betas and feedback, Microsoft finally has an Office product that users can appreciate.
A New Office For All
The one thing that Mac users will notice are the totally redone screens and functionality of Office for the Mac. It allows for a Mac themed Office operating system, and gives users new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The Mac needed these updates, and the new version looks great.
The new Office for Mac 2016 looks a lot like the iPad version that has been available for sometime, and has co-authoring features for Word and PowerPoint. Word has a new design ribbon, new navigation panes, and recommended features. All of these will make Office for Mac 2016 a winner for Mac fans.
Should Mac Users Update?
The thing that Mac users have is a choice in these types of products. Mac users have the full office suite of products from Apple, and can choose Google’s line of products as well. Microsoft is including Outlook, OneNote, and a number of included cloud features to court users to the new Office for Mac 2016.
Office for Mac 2016 is available for Office 365 subscribers, and gives students either a free or very discounted version of the software. Users can purchase it online later this year, but is keeping it to the Office 365 subscription model for now. It’s still a great deal, and one that Mac users will download quickly.
