Crytek Unconfirms The Rumors: There’s No Crysis 3 for Wii U

No Crysis 3 For Wii U2

Rumors of Crysis bringing the third mainline chapter to Wii U, Nintendo’s next-generation console, surfaced this week with conflicting information from developers Crytek. Now, an employee from the studio says isn’t won’t support the console with Crysis 3.

No high-end, PC-breaking shooter for Nintendo fans. Crysis confirms no Crysis 3 for Wii U

Conflicting information surfaced this week over whether Crysis 3 would arrive for Wii U. Developers for the company claim it was and was not happening, but now we have an official response: it isn’t.

Nick Button-Brown, general manager at Crytek, confirmed the lack of support for Wii U via Twitter. Simply, he said Crytek isn’t working on a Wii U version of Crysis 3.

There’s the question if a Wii U version of Crysis 3 would be recognizable compared to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. Crytek likes to push hardware to the limit – the original Crysis is still the benchmark for PCs – so a potentially weaker Wii U, as has been rumored, could hinder the title.

The conflicting comments from Crytek this week claiming it isn’t ruled out, but the lack of a specific release date for Wii U didn’t aid development of the game. Crysis 3 launches in 2013, so a Wii U version probably isn’t going to be a simple port.

A Silver Lining …

Another developer said there’s a fat chance of Crysis 3 coming to Wii, but didn’t explain why. A bit of a PR mix-up, then.

Crysis 3 takes place directly after the events of Crysis 3, returning to New York (yawn) as its encased by Nanodomes. Nanodomes basically stop people from leaving, changing the environment across the city. Crytek says the game will move through seven different environments, so it should help to remove the boredom created from moving through a city.

Nintendo seems to be doing a good job of getting third-party developers launching games on Wii U. Aliens: Colonial Marines releases 2013 – described as the best version by Gearbox head Randy Pitchford – while Assassin’s Creed 3 is also launching on the system. The latter is releasing October 31, and Ubisoft says the game will be finished alongside the other versions. So it’s down to Nintendo to ensure a close-as-possible release for Wii U.
