Much-anticipated title coming February 26, 2013 due to feature additions.
Time to re-budget for the winter period, because one game has been delayed until 2013: BioShock Infinite
Excited for BioShock Infinite? Looking forward to buying it for Christmas? Well, pay attention: it’s not coming during the winter. In fact, it’s not coming this year: BioShock Infinite is arriving in 2013, it has been announced. The reason is the because 2K Games want it to become more awesome, if that’s possible.
The release date for BioShock Infinite was originally slated for October, having been announced in March. Creative director Ken Levine said the team felt pretty good about the release date, but the feeling at the studio has changed. Since then, the team has uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary Levine. As a result, the release date has been moved to February – February 26, 2012.
The news is pretty shocking, because the game had been moving along quite nicely. Plus, the winter period for Microsoft is currently quiet as it stands (pending announcement at E3 2012). We’re looking at Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Assassin’s Creed 3. Yes they’re three major titles, but I’d argue they all cater to a specific audience (two of them are FPS titles, and a lot of people are becoming bored of the genre). BioShock Infinite fille that action title void with something completely unique. I don’t want to see Q4 dominated by two established FPS franchises, however much I love Halo.
BioShock Infinite received a very positive reception at E3 2011, gaining over 75 editorial awards including the Game Critics Awards’ Best of Show. That’s pretty incredible, and says a lot on how much the game was anticipated.
Players take control of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, who is sent to Columbia to rescue Elizabeth – a young woman imprisoned since her childhood. Two two develop a relationship – though we don’t know where it’s purely friendship – and the twos’ abilities augment each other as they escape from a city that is literally collapsing. Player move on high-speed rails among the clouds. Players will also use dozens of weapons and abilities.
BioShock Infinite will release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on February 26, 2013.
