Bethesda has been working on the upcoming Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim for already 4 years now. So, we can expect some gameplay footage real soon! Check out the latest Bethesda podcast and a map of Tamriel after the break.

Update: It’s also confirmed that Skyrim will use a new self-made engine (by Bethesda) and that it will be released for PC, PS3 and XBOX360.

Elder Scrolls 5 Podcast

Head over to http://www.bethblog.com/podcast/ to check out the Podcast with Bethesda Game Studios executive game director Todd Howard. As mentioned in the podcast, Gameinformer will release a lot of information about Elder Scrolls 5 in early January. At the end of the podcast, they play all three soundtracks of Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. So far, the Morrowind and Skyrim soundtracks are my favorites, but they’re all very epic.

Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim: 5 Year Development

Another very interesting information they revealed in the podcast is that Bethesda started working on Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim back in 2006, right after Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion was finished. Morrowind was released way back in 2002, so they put about 4 years of work into Oblivion and when they’re done with Skyrim it’ll be about 5 years of work to finish that game. Does that necessarily mean it will be a better game? Of course it doesn’t, but to me it’s a sign of quality – no publisher is forcing them to release the game too early. (Sidenote: Bethesda Softworks will be the sole publisher for Elder Scrolls 5, so there’s no 3rd-party publisher involved).

Trivia: Bethesda is an actual town in Maryland where Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios were founded back in 1986.
