You’re skeptical about Dead Space 3? Well the gameplay demo didn’t look really bad, or great
EA’s Gamescom conference opened the biggest gaming event in Europe yesterday, and a game featured during the hour-long conference was Dead Space 3. While criticized for being a departure from the horror roots Dead Space planted, the demo didn’t look too bad.
Pre-Order Bonuses: Suits And More
However, before we talk about the demo, developers Visceral Games unveiled pre-order bonuses for the title. Players can pre-order for access to two suits at the start of the game, though we’re not sure how exactly players acquire the suits.
There’s the First Contact bundle, including a suit of the same name. It sports a gold finish, offering long-term protection against space exposure, and the goal-covered Negotiator Weapon. Negotiator has two modes of fire: a single shot capable of blowing a man-size organism into several pieces, and a second mode for dismembering life from a distance. Appealing.
The second bundle is called Witness of Truth, including the Witness Suit. It’s covered completely in grafitti; meanwhile, the Evangelizer Weapon has an assault rifle on the top and a shotgun below. You can use both individually.
Along with the horror-themed gameplay trailer, Visceral Games showed a gameplay segment where Isaac Clarke crash lands and finds himself flying through space. Avoiding, he eventually goes flying through an exploding ship and finds himself back in space. It’s not the action focus many fans, including myself, want from the title. It’s good news then that the the trailer is horror-themed, even if EA thinks you need to broaden the audience to sell five million units.
Visceral Games, EA Disillusioning Fans?
At the Dead Space 3 demo during E3 2012, there was a mixed reaction towards the title. The demo continued the trend of showing action-centric gameplay snippets, because it’s apparently what the gamers want. We’ll have to see if Dead Space 3, at least, pays homage to its horror origin.
Dead Space 3 launches February 5 in North America and February 8 in Europe for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.
