What is the “Data Execution Prevention”, short DEP?
The DEP Data Execution Prevention is a security feature that has been available since Windows XP SP2. You will also find this feature in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
It’s trying to prevent that certain applications and services can execute code from a non-executable memory region. It’s a useful feature that can help to prevent a buffer overflow and it even helps to fix problems for some games like “Age of Mythology, but it can also cause a lot of problems.

Many games of NCSoft currently do not work on Windows 7, in particular the MMO Lineage 2.
I think they updated the GameGuard for Aion and possibly for Guild Wars, but not for L2 or Rappelz.

Rappelz is not a NCSoft game by the way, it’s more like a free copy of Lineage 2.
Here’s the solution:
1. Download the updated GameGuard from Aion here. GameGuard Windows 7 fix
2. Duplicate the l2.bin (inside the system folder) and rename it to l2.exe.
3. Next, replace the GameGuard files that are officially signed by NCSoft.
When you think of Microsoft, you also think of Intel. Those two names are connected to each other very closely. But will this change soon? Will we think about Google instead of Microsoft when we hear the name “Intel”?
Intel teamed up with Google to work on a OS simply called “Google Chrome OS”. According to heise, there are many other companies who will support Google’s new operating system:
- Acer, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Toshiba and Adobe
Despite the fact that Intel is working on a netbook OS too, they are working closely together with Google now. How can that be?

Microsoft recently announced how much Windows 7 is going to cost.
Windows 7 Final Prices:
Windows 7 Home Premium: $120 for upgrade; $200 for full version
Windows 7 Professional: $200 for upgrade; $300 for full version
Windows 7 Ultimate: $220 for upgrade; $320 for full version
Preorder Windows 7
If you decide quickly, then you can save between $70 and $100, because Microsoft is going to offer a discounted price for preorders. According to Microsoft, preorders are limited.
Preorder Prices (Upgrade from Vista to Win7):
Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrade only): $50
Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade only): $100
Windows 7 Ultimate (Upgrade only): $200
Reasons To Preorder Windows 7:
Well, if you own Vista and you are sure that you want to buy Windows 7, then this a great chance. If you plan to get Windows 7 Ultimate, then you could buy Windows 7 Home (Upgrade), pay for an upgrade to Ultimate (once it’s available) and save some money.
Actually, it’s a bit disappointing to see that they don’t offer a discounted price for Windows 7 Ultimate, because that’s the edition most advanced users are interested in.

As previously reported, Windows 7 will have a feature called WARP 10 (Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform) that will allow you to boot your PC without a graphic card.
Developer Stardock (Galactic Civilizations II, WindowBlinds 6) is obviously very pleased with Windows 7.
Stardock only managed to sell so many “games” because they’re all running on almost every PC. WARP10 means that Stardock can make games that look a lot better without having to worry that it won’t run on every PC. That’s why CEO Brad Wardell urged everyone to install Windows 7. Obviously, they will also sell a lot more games if their games look better. As of right now, they can’t require DirectX9/10 support, because many people still run XP.
Stardock has recently (4/14/2009) released their game “Demigod”. It’s a tactical strategy game that includes rpg elements:

Stardock’s CEO hasn’t made any statement regarding WindowsBlinds yet. Windows 7 has a completely new GUI, so Windows Blinds does not support Windows 7.
Windows 7 Netbook: ARCHOS 9
Quite a few mobile devices and netbooks will run Windows 7.
The ARCHOS 9 is a very innovative netbook without keyboard. It’s extremely thin and provides a virtual keyboard (on the screen). Through 2 antennas you can receive DVBT TV and record your favorite shows to a 80GB disk.

Two other mobile devices that will run Windows 7 are the MWg Flame 2 and Atom VI.
On MWg’s homepage they still have that “coming soon” picture, although both devices were supposed to be available months ago. Weird!
