As you might know, Battlefield 3 won’t support Windows XP. The Frostbite engine 2.0 requires DirectX10 or higher. The new engine is quite impressive. Here’s a preview trailer of the new Battlefield 3 engine.

Buildings in Battlefield 3 could possibly be destroyable, which would be pretty awesome. I still remember the first game that allowed us to destroy the area (Red Faction) and that was a lot of fun back then.

Also, Battlefield 3 might feature some darker maps that play during nightime. Will we have nightvision then?

At the very least, we will have some amazing lightning effects in Battlefield 3 and a lot more realistic graphics. After all, lightning is still the “bottleneck” of graphics. When I take a look at a CG photo I can usually identifiy it as one because of the lightning (although it get’s complicated with HDR CG phots). So, it will be pretty interesting to see the engine in action.
