I’m not exactly sure how much energy you can save by using a dark theme, but it really adds up in the long run. Of course you don’t have to use a classic Windows 7 theme – a darkish/grey custom theme might already help. The themes service is not that resource hungry, so it’s definitely a good way to save energy on certain monitors (CRT monitors and others – you’d have to look up the details online)
